Steel HorseTech llc. Safe Blade Technology Stop Controller
The Smart Blade Technology controller is an integral safety component of the Steel HorseTech hydraulic hoof trimmer. The trimmer utilizes a very sharp hydraulically operated mechanism that produces a force of more than 3000 pounds to make an easy job of hoof trimming. Without the Safe BladeTechnology feature, the device could cause a devastating injury to the operator.
We all know that we must be very attentive and concentrate on the animal to avoid injury from the animal. When the Safe Blade Technology Controller is used properly, injury to the operator by the trimmer can be avoided even when the operator’s attention is directed away from the blade by the animal’s activity or other distraction.
How it works: Before using the trimmer tool, the operators finger that pushes the button must stay in contact with the grounding ring that circles where the finger pushes the button. So that contact with the operator’s skin that is intern connected to the BladeStop Controller.
When the conductivity level drops to below a preprogrammed threshold level (indicating that the operator has touched the blade),Yellow Light. The pump motor is turned off and a hydraulic directional valve is set to bypass fluid back to the reservoir causing the blade to instantly stop closing. The blade then retracts via a spring return.Yellow Light. After a period of 6 seconds, the Safe BladeTechnology Controller resets it's self if the operator is clear. Then the trimmer returns to normal operation. Green Light.
It is important that the Safe Blade Technology function is tested before each use by lightly touching the outside surface of the trimmer blade to make sure that the Safe Blade Technology controller is functioning properly. Red Light Means electrical short in system.
The Safe Blade Technology Controller provides three levels of sensitivity help prevent false triggers due to different moisture conditions that will affect conductivity. The high sensitivity setting allows for dry conditions where the skin contact conductivity is higher than normal. The low sensitivity setting allows for higher moisture conditions where skin conductivity is below normal. In most cases the normal setting will work fine but some consideration to operating conditions must be given.
For instance, if the hoof and the point where the operator grasps the animal’s foot is damp, a false triggering of the Safe Blade Technology may occur due to a conductive path from the operator’s skin through the animal at the point where the animal’s leg is grasped and through the damp hoof to the blade. If nuisance false triggering of the Safe Blade Technology is causing a problem, the operator may try a less sensitive setting. If repeated false triggering is occurring with the Safe Blade Technology controller set at the lowest sensitivity setting,Try insulating operator from aniamal with a rubber bell boot. A bypass switch is provided that will disable the Safe Blade Technology controller altogether in rainy muddy conditions.
If the BladeStop controller is disabled via the bypass switch, there will be NO protection against injury from the trimmer blade. Anything that would limit conductivity between the operator’s skin and the blade, such as gloves will prevent the BladeStop controller from operating properly.
